About

Myriad Online is a commercial online RPG that has been in development for more than 2 years. It is being worked on by a very small team of dedicated people. Hopefully our long-term commitment to this game demonstrates that this is a very serious endeavor.

While the server is written in C++, we are using the GameMaker IDE for the client which often leads people to underestimate the project. However, GM is well suited to our goals and the entire concept of a small team attempting to make a game in this genre.

In total, Myriad Online has received over $1000 in donations already, and is currently in closed alpha stage (people can join by donating $5). Eventually the game will be Free2Play supported by a fair cash shop.

Team Positions

We have kept our team very small, and plan to for the foreseeable future. However, we are always looking for highly skilled and dedicated people to join us.

Digital Artist

OVERVIEW

I have been searching for a highly skilled and dedicated digital artist since this project started. Myriad Online is being developed by a few individuals with no budget to speak of, so not only do we need to find a talented artist, but also one that can work for no initial payment.

Naturally I understand that this project might seem like a daunting task for a single artist, but the job doesn't involve you making assets for the entire game by yourself forever. What we do need is someone who can take the placeholder graphics we are using currently and replace them with beautiful custom graphics.

Since Myriad Online is always growing, the work load would be fairly consistent and should be manageable. Once the game gets big enough that the demand is too much, then we can begin adding extra artists that would be under your lead (if you wanted).

REQUIREMENTS

The most important requirement for this position is that it requires long-term commitment. There is no point applying if you're likely to quit after 3 months. This job does involve a lot of work - but our entire team is doing a lot of work to make this project a reality.

The actual type of digital art is also important. We realize each style has different benefits and setbacks. For example, as much as we would love to render the game in pure pixel art, this may be an unrealistic goal due to how time consuming pixel art is to make. What we're after is just a game that looks good, so we are open to different styles.

The position will involve the creation of: tile sets, equipment, creatures, architecture, and interface assets. Myriad Online is based in 3/4 view (see screenshots), and you are allowed some creative control.

You must speak English well, be 18 years of age at least, have a fair amount of free time, and not have any large engagements planned (such as college).

PAYMENT

Since this is a commercial project, money must come into the equation eventually. While there is no upfront payment for this position, we expect that you will want to earn an income from this game as much as the rest of us do.

Our goal with Myriad Online is to build this it into a business that generates substantial income. As the creator of the project, my personal goal is to earn a living with this game. For the people that join me, I want the same.

Once the game goes commercial, you will receive 20% of the game's income each month, capped at $2000 per month. By the time the game is earning large amounts of revenue like this, I might even be able to hire you full time - who knows!

Artists, you know what your time is worth better than I do. If you feel like this is unfair, drop me a line, I am a fair guy Smiley

You will of course be credited prominently for your work, however we are not looking for someone who is just trying to fill out a portfolio.
